Evolving Algebras and Mathematical Models of Language

چکیده
We consider the use of evolving algebra methods of specifying grammars for natural languages. We are especially interested in distributed evolving algebras. We provide the motivation for doing this, and we give a reconstruction of some classical grammatical formalisms in directly dynamic terms. Finally, we consider some technical questions arising from the use of direct dynamism in grammatical formalisms.

Dynamic Semantics of the Oberon Programming Language
In this paper we present an abstract mathematical model for the dynamic semantics of the Oberon programming language using the Evolving Algebras approach. Oberon is the object-oriented successor of Pascal and Modula2. The resulting formal speciication is complete, compact, and understandable with minimal training.
متن کاملOn Heyting algebras and dual BCK-algebras
A Heyting algebra is a distributive lattice with implication and a dual $BCK$-algebra is an algebraic system having as models logical systems equipped with implication. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relation of Heyting algebras between dual $BCK$-algebras. We define notions of $i$-invariant and $m$-invariant on dual $BCK$-semilattices and prove that a Heyting semilattice is equiva...
متن کاملWhy Use Evolving Algebras for Hardware and Software Engineering?
In this paper I answer the question how evolving algebras can be used for the design and analysis of complex hardware and software systems. I present the salient features of this new method and illustrate them through several examples from my work on specification and verification of programming languages, compilers, protocols and architectures. The definition of a mathematical model for Hennes...
متن کاملPotentials of Evolving Linear Models in Tracking Control Design for Nonlinear Variable Structure Systems
Evolving models have found applications in many real world systems. In this paper, potentials of the Evolving Linear Models (ELMs) in tracking control design for nonlinear variable structure systems are introduced. At first, an ELM is introduced as a dynamic single input, single output (SISO) linear model whose parameters as well as dynamic orders of input and output signals can change through ...
متن کاملEvolving Algebras: an Attempt to Discover Semantics
This tutorial is based on lecture notes from the Fall 1990 course on Principles of Programming Languages at the University of Michigan. (My young friend Quisani did not attend the lectures.) The present version incorporates some changes provoked by the necessity to update the bibliography. The main part of the paper is still the same, however, and the examples are unchanged even though many thi...
